Suzanne Richter (left), Paris-Henry County Heritage Center board member, admires the new display pedestal constructed for the historic Conway Bible made by Jim Jackman of Silverwood Cabinetry in Paris. Boasting a dark cherry finish to match the home’s original furniture, the pedestal was custom-built to match the glass display cover, or vitrine, that covers the Bible. Suzy Herron, Heritage Center director, said cases like the one made by Jackman typically cost $4,700 or more, but he agreed to do the work at a much more affordable cost. After seeing how well it turned out, Jackman donated the case, and has offered to build six more cases to house other artifacts at the center. The Bible was given to a local Confederate infantry regiment when it formed in 1861.
